2006 Somerset Division Two - Cup Final

YATTON ATHLETIC 2 CLUTTON 2

(Yatton lost 3-1 on penalties)

Clutton came out victorious from the Somerset County Division 3 Subsidiary Cup final in an enthralling game which had everything.

Yatton started well and created the first real chance when Cox's free-kick found Watts at the far post, but the wing-back could only blaze his free header well over the bar.

With skipper Wooldridge and Coombes excelling at the back for Yatton, Clutton found it difficult to make any headway, but Athletic had keeper Martin Stone to thank for an outstanding low stop from a corner to prevent his side going behind.

Clutton stepped up the pressure and eventually got the breakthrough when Watts's clumsy challenge in the box saw the referee award a penalty, which was duly despatched.

Yatton got back on level terms in the second period when Ryan Richards tucked home a far post header to send the game to extra-time.

Clutton got their noses back in front midway through extra-time with an individual strike, but Richards was Yatton's hero as he rescued them again.

As the ball broke to the edge of the box the midfielder fired an effort which struck the under-side of the bar and crashed into the back of the net.

Deep into extra-time Clutton's centre-half got his marching orders for an off-the-ball incident with Damian Limon but Yatton were unable to make their numerical advantage count and the game went to a penalty shoot-out.

Despite Stone making one fine stop, Richards, Grant and Bashford all missed and Clutton claimed the trophy.
