Congresbury 2 - 2 Yatton
With pre-season forgotten Yatton made a positive start to the league campaign with a draw away from home that could easily have been all three points.
The away side made the better start and played some good football with the Bury defence appearing frightened to make a challenge as Richards, Read and Limon all ran at them. It was Read that made the early breakthrough after Scott Bird picked him out from a throw in.
But Congresbury have a talented attacking line and were always a threat with the ball, creating an equaliser not long after from the prolific Lush.
Heads could have dropped but with Bury continuing to encourage the visitors with their nervous defending it came as no surprise when they took the lead for a second time, again through Read, after a jinking run by Richards gave him time and space to pass into the net. The lead was short lived though, with Lush again showing his quality with a shot curled into the far corner from outside the box. Bury then started to play some good football and created a number of chances, with two goals ruled out for offside and at this point could have run away from the visitors. The fact they didn't do so is largely down the young James Bird, with his pace and timing in the tackle ensuring the teams went into half time all square.
The second half saw a change of formation to 3-5-2 and this effectively stifled anything Bury could throw at the visitors. With Lush subdued the better chances of the half went to Yatton, with Cox working a short free kick to Lee who saw it go just wide. As the final whistle approached it was Yatton who should have won it, with several opportunities to take all three points, the best and last being Keedwell's back post header that went just wide in the dying seconds.
