Blagdon 0 - 2 Yatton Reserves
Yatton Reserves finally got the win they've been working towards with an impressive display against cup opposition from Weston and District Div 2. From the first minute Yatton were creating good chances and Blagdon had to be thankful for some lenient refereeing decisions early on, first when Alex Bird was pulled back by the last man when through on goal and then minutes later when Lloyd Richardson looked to have been blatantly fouled just outside the six-yard box. The earlier foul on Bird allowed Richardson to test his skills with a dead ball and saw his effort beat the wall, but it sailed just over the bar.
Blagdon struggled to create any chances with the Yatton defence, Dan Winstanley in particular, playing themselves out of trouble rather than taking the agricultural option. This composure allowed the visitors to build attacks from the back with Dan Jenkins always involved on the right wing.
Yatton eventually got their reward as half time approached, with Alex Bird cutting in from the right and playing the ball to James Bashford who found himself with the space to calmly finish it.
The second half followed the pattern of the first with Blagdon unable to threaten Yatton's goal, their only sign of creativity in midfield was being completely dominated by the tireless Stu Dowsing, whose hard work breaking down play and shielding the back four was a major factor in Yatton's solid performance.
As legs tired the youth and fitness of Yatton was clear to see, Ash Derrick made three attacking substitutions as they pressed for a second goal and it wasn't long in coming, with passage to the next round secured when Shaun Rossiter flicked on for Lloyd Richardson to open his account for the season. The management will certainly hope this kind of performance can be repeated on a regular basis in the league.
