Reserves 1 - 0 Nailsea Utd B

Anyone watching this game must have wondered how the Reserve team had struggled at the start of the season, Nailsea came into it having scored 21 goals in their last three matches and yet by the end it was Yatton who should have won it at a canter. As it was the home team did take all the points, courtesy of an own goal from a corner whipped in from the left. That was after 65 minutes but by that point Yatton could, and possibly should have already been two or three goals ahead.

With Rossiter providing the experience and Richardson the pace, Yatton's strike force were a constant threat to the Nailsea back line, add to that the youth of Jenkins and Bryant on the flanks and Yatton were able to create plenty of chances against their local rivals.

On another day Jenkins might have ended up with a first half hat-trick, with a number of chances falling to him, the best of which followed good work by Bryant down the left who delivered a cross to the back post that was begging to be headed in, Jenkins went instead with his right foot and saw his effort flash wide.

The second half was much like the first, with Paul Oldham and captain Jones marshalling the centre of defence, keeping quiet the skillful young striker who was possibly the scorer of so many of Nailsea's goals in earlier weeks.

In midfield too the Yatton players were winning their personal battles and it was one of these that lead to the only goal of the game. A Nailsea player attempted to go in hard in a challenge but succeeded only in injuring himself, in the five or so minutes of stoppage while he was attended to Nailsea must have lost their concentration, as the corner from the restart caused panic in the visitor's box with a defender deflecting the ball into his own net.

As the game wore on there looked to be only one winner and so it proved, with a clean sheet and a good performance the Derrick-Port management team will have gone home happy.
