Yatton 12 - 1 Weston St Johns Res
Yatton came up against an understrength Weston St Johns side and took advantage in clinical fashion, with hat tricks from Lloyd Richardson, Damian Limon and Christian Read. Scott Bird scored a brace with Ross Carter also scoring on debut.
It was a good time to play Weston St Johns, as their manager left midweek, along with half of the team. The eleven players on the pitch were therefore not all of the calibre expected in the Somerset League. That said, Yatton have in the past struggled to produce the result and scoreline expected against such weak opposition. 30 minutes into the game it looked as if this could be the case again, with Weston deserving to be on level terms at 1-1 after some sloppy defending by Yatton.
However, once Scott Bird put Yatton ahead for the second time there was no stopping the home side, with the visitors heads dropping and by half time the score had raced to 5-1. All Yatton needed to do was continue playing as they had in the first half, with Scott Bird and Limon working the flanks well, supported by full backs Hall and Moore who were given far more space and time on the ball than usual.
With a defence that was slow and indecisive, Weston simply couldn't match the skill and pace of the Yatton attack. Richardson opened the scoring after a defensive mix up and added another before half time. Limon too was yards quicker than his marker and by half time was also on a brace. That players were chasing hat tricks was probably the incentive Yatton needed to keep plugging away and not start coasting. Read quickly joined his fellow strikers on a brace in the second half before Limon completed his hat trick. Read was next with a penalty that was perhaps harshly awarded, before Richardson rounded off the set late in the second half.

It's Ross Carter, not Walker.
