Banwell 1 - 0 Yatton

Yatton went in to this fixture with confidence having gained a draw against second placed Langford the previous week. Top of the table Banwell were missing a number of their regulars but still started favourites.

With Stone and Coombes recalled to the defence the visitors weathered the early storm and enjoyed good possession on a sticky pitch but it was Banwell who made the breakthrough midway through the first half. The Banwell winger evaded his marker on the left to put a pinpoint cross which J.Bird & Wycherley could do nothing about as the home striker stole in to make it one nil. Yatton battled well for the remainder of the half without really creating any chances for the forward pairing of A.Bird and Richardson.

After the break Banwell strangely went into their shell for a promotion chasing side. This spurred on the Yatton midfield with S.Walker and Lee getting forward with greater ease and it was Lee who got behind the home defence only to see his shot rebound off the bar. Encouraged by this Yatton committed more players forward and with S.Bird and Abrahams finding more space in midfield . The introduction of subs Cox, Limon & Read showed Yatton sensed Banwell were their for the taking.

But cracks began to show in Yatton’s defence it took some good defending from Moore and a tip onto the bar from Stone to stop the league leaders from increasing their lead.

But Banwell were getting desperate and employed some embarrassing time wasting tactics resulting in a number of bookings. Banwell held out for the win but the management team of C.Walker & D.Richards can only be encouraged by Yatton’s display against the high flying opposition in the last two weeks.
